Biography

Michael Latham received his BA from Macalester College and his MA and PhD from the University of Chicago. He was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to study at the University of Bremen in Germany, and received a prestigious Whiting Fellowship to support his dissertation research. He has taught courses on literature, film, media studies and visual culture at the University of Chicago, University of Michigan, Bowling Green State University and at Roosevelt University, where he also teaches German language to opera students in the Chicago College of Performing Arts. Michael has taught courses on Film Noir, The New Hollywood, The French New Wave, Pre-Code Hollywood, Italian Neorealism, New German Cinema and the Vampire Film for the Graham School. He can be seen in the 2010 documentary Chicago Drawbridges discussing the appearance of Chicago’s bascule bridges in films shot on location in the city. He is working on a history of Chicago film.
