Biography
Brian is a retired attorney and hotel company executive. He has represented clients in a broad array of complex business transactions in commercial real estate, with extensive experience in hospitality transactions in both U.S. and non-U.S. jurisdictions.
Most recently, Brian was General Counsel of Atrium, a family office with investments in a variety of industries. He continues to advise Atrium on strategic matters and is a member of the Board of Directors of its Hawaiian Host Group. Before Atrium, Brian was at Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide as General Counsel – Europe, Africa & Middle East and before that as General Counsel – Latin America. Before Starwood, Brian was in private practice as a partner at Kirkland & Ellis LLP.
Brian earned his undergraduate degree at Stony Brook University with an Honors B.A. in philosophy writing his thesis on the Spanish philosopher Miguel de Unamuno. He then attended the University of Chicago Law School. Brian is currently a student at the University of Chicago Graham School pursuing a Master of Liberal Arts degree.
Brian has a broad international and cultural perspective. He has lived outside the U.S. for about 20 years growing up as an expat in Malaysia, Iran and the Dominican Republic, studying in Spain and working in Belgium. Brian has travelled extensively overseas. He is fluent in Spanish and is currently learning Hungarian.
Brian is married with two children. He and his wife live in New York City. Brian is an avid cyclist and has climbed several Tour de France and Giro de Italia mountains. He still harbors dreams of riding his bicycle across the country.
