The Songs of Stephen Sondheim

Stephen Sondheim is considered by many to be the most accomplished composer and lyricist to ever write for the American musical theater. This course will focus on songs from eight of Sondheim’s masterpieces, including the dark and twisted Sweeney Todd, the comic but disconcerting Into the Woods, and the romantic and powerful Passion. We will also examine the scores of Company, Follies, A Little Night Music, Pacific Overtures and Sunday in the Park with George.
