Biography
As an alumnus of the University of Chicago Graham School’s Basic Program of Liberal Education, Scott M. Anderson has a strong belief in the power of critical thinking, civic dialogue, and a well-rounded education—principles he credits to his liberal arts foundation. An enthusiastic lifelong learner, he is committed to broadening the program’s reach and impact.
Scott serves as Chief Investment Officer at the North Dakota Retirement and Investment Office (RIO), where he oversees more than $24 billion in assets across multiple public funds. He leads the state’s investment strategy with a focus on modernization, long-term sustainability, and fiduciary excellence, including the stewardship of the $12 billion Legacy Fund, North Dakota’s sovereign wealth fund.
Prior to joining RIO, Scott held senior leadership roles at the State of Wisconsin Investment Board, American Family Insurance, and Deloitte’s global strategy and operations consulting practice.
Scott’s commitment to service is reflected in past leadership roles including as President of the CFA Society of Madison, Chair of the Dane County YMCA, and as a Reach a Child board member.
