Biography
Don’s twin passions are investing and literature. He nurtured his love of investing over his long career at Morningstar, which he joined in 1986 as the company’s first research analyst. He held many positions at the firm including CEO and Global Head of Research. He has been a leading voice for investors, twice testifying before Congress for better disclosures and safeguarding of investor rights. He originated many Morningstar innovations, such as the Style Box and the Market Barometer. In 2014, he moved into a part-time advisory role at the firm and turned more of his energies toward literature, completing the Basic Program in 2017 and now several alumni sequences and Graham travel to Oxford and Greece. His love for Graham, its instructors, and fellow students spurred Don to take on a leadership role both philanthropically and through serving as the current Chair of the Graham Council. He hopes to preserve Graham’s distinctive approach to lifelong learning and make it available to a wider audience.
