Biography
Albert B. Fernandez is currently Professor Emeritus of Cultural History and Humanities at the Shimer Great Books School of North Central College. He earned his doctorate, in Comparative Literature, from Columbia University. He has taught at Shimer College, where he played many roles, including Dean of Students and faculty trustee. He has also taught, as post-doctoral faculty, at Cornell University, The College of William and Mary, where he won the Senior Class Teaching Award, and at the College of the University of Chicago. Though he considers himself a generalist, Albert’s areas of focused interest are Twentieth Century cultural history and history and philosophy of education, and he has designed and taught courses on both. He has published on educational theory, on hermeneutics, and on Ortega y Gasset. Albert has also served on the Faculty Advisory Council of the Illinois Board of Higher Education and as the Speaker of the Shimer College Assembly.
