Graham Annual Fund

The Graham School Annual Fund enables us to sustain our distinctive model of teaching and learning. The generosity of donors empowers us to better support our instructors, welcome a broader community of learners, and curate new learning and experiences.

The Annual Fund also enables the Graham School to offer Student Access Scholarships, opening Graham courses to learners who otherwise would not be able to participate.

Hope R. Sheffield

The instructors are just amazing. They are committed, incredibly knowledgeable, and generous-spirited. I felt that they were key to the program’s success and all that I was learning and enjoying. We wanted to do something that could benefit their lives.

Hope R. Sheffield CER’08 (Basic Program)

Exploring great books and new ideas with like-minded students and engaging instructors is a great gift. Now is the time to return the gift by making a donation to support our hard working and dedicated faculty and extend scholarships to members of the community.  I hope that everyone can join me in making a contribution to support the Graham School.

Martin J. Friedman CER’20 (Basic Program)

A principal reason I give to the MLA program is that I have benefitted enormously from the perspectives of classmates from many different walks of life. I believe it is essential to minimize financial hurdles to maintain and increase all types of diversity in the program.

Leon B. Greenfield JD’89, MLA Student

It’s been a privilege to be with my varied group of classmates and instructors, flourishing in a way Plato would appreciate. I want my contribution to ensure this legacy endures, providing scholarships for a wider group of students, while supporting the hard work of the instructors in preparing for each class and developing new classes.

Patricia Brichta CER’24 (Basic Program)

In our increasingly siloed, stridently opinionated world, Graham’s commitment to encouraging civil discourse and attracting students of distinct and varied backgrounds and viewpoints has made the classes I’ve taken revelatory. So much so, that I’ve become a donor to Graham’s student access scholarship in the hope that my future classmates can share in Graham’s remarkable learning environment.

When you support the annual fund, you have the option to designate how your gift will further the Graham School’s mission:

  • Basic Program Annual Fund

This fund directs resources to our Basic Program of Liberal Education for Adults, which has engaged lifelong learners in a critical examination of the fundamental works of Western civilization for more than seven decades. Your gift enables us to hire more instructors, support professional and course development, increase the availability of scholarships, and enable hands-on learning experiences outside of the classroom.

  • Leadership and Society Initiative Annual Fund

The Leadership and Society Initiative (LSI) supports accomplished executives in successfully transitioning from their longstanding careers toward purposeful next chapters of leadership for society through a yearlong immersion at UChicago. This fund opens the doors of the LSI Fellowship to leaders of all backgrounds, especially the public and social sectors. The fund also supports public gatherings that extend LSI’s intellectual resources to a broad population of individuals seeking to make an impact in their next chapters.

  • Master of Liberal Arts Annual Fund

The Master of Liberal Arts (MLA) fuels students’ growth as leaders, problem solvers, communicators, and writers through multidisciplinary education in the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences. This fund expands access to the MLA program for more students from a wide range of professional and educational backgrounds. Thanks to your support, a community of learners come together to read deeply, think critically, and lead purposefully.
