In this conversation at Graham, we will examine the writings and testimonies of French writers and diarists who lived in German-occupied France from 1940-1945. The conversation will preview Joseph Heininger’s forthcoming class at Graham exploring these narratives.

Joseph Heininger is a professor of English at Dominican University who will be teaching at the Graham School in the autumn of 2024. He has published on Seamus Heaney’s responses to Dante, James Joyce’s use of advertising fictions in Ulysses, and Dennis O’Driscoll’s poetry about contemporary belief and doubt. His article on Heaney’s French translations is forthcoming, and he is writing a study of Heaney and the Imprint of Translation.
