Closeness and Point of View in Fiction and Nonfiction

Cost
625.00

This course was available in the past and may be presented again as part of the Open Enrollment curriculum.

Whose story is it? Who tells the story and why? How does a writer decide how much to get inside a character's head? What are the advantages of different points of view? We will examine exemplary work, including pieces by Virginia Woolf, Claire Huang Kinsley, Raymond Carver, Angela Carter, Marita Bonner, Eduardo Galeano (transl.), Robert(a) Marshall, John Edgar Wideman, Franz Kafka (transl.) and others. Students will experiment with telling stories and writing essays from different points of view, and move between close up to panoramic.
