This course was available in the past and may be presented again as part of the Open Enrollment curriculum.

From the Notre Dame school to the present day, the French tradition is the most enduring in the Western musical world, while Spanish music (including music from Latin America) is a fascinating mix of the Moorish and the European. Music discussed includes Couperin, Berlioz, Bizet, Debussy, and the unique institution of Grand Opera from the French, and great ballets, piano cycles, and concerti by such composers as Scarlatti, Falla, Granados, and Rodrigo from the Spanish tradition.
