Charles Dickens: A Tale of Two Cities, Oliver Twist, and Hard Times
This course was available in the past and may be presented again as part of the Open Enrollment curriculum.
This class will take up three of Dickens’ most popular novels, beginning with his classic account of the French revolution, and following up with his portrayal of the phenonemon of street urchins in London and the social conditions of industrial labor (and child labor) in manufacturing cities. Even at his most serious and probing, Dickens peppers his sharpest critiques with humor and humanity as only he can.
