About the Event
Machiavelli is of course famous and infamous for his writings on war and politics in which love, the human soul, and gods are rarely mentioned. Yet he was also wrote beguiling plays, stories, and poems rife with tales of love, sex, souls, and gods. Please join us for a discussion with Basic Program Instructor Christopher Lynch on both the familiar and the unfamiliar Machiavelli. The conversation will preview his forthcoming course at Graham.

Christopher Lynch received his BA from St. John’s College and his PhD from the University of Chicago in the Committee on Social Thought. He is Professor Emeritus of Political Science at Carthage College, and has been a Visiting Associate Professor at the University of Chicago. His research concerns Machiavelli, whose Art of War he has translated. He also coedited the collection of essays, Principle and Prudence in Western Political Thought (2016).
