About the Event

Graduate study is a significant next step, and sometimes the best way to understand whether a program is right for you is to experience the academic environment firsthand.

Join the University of Chicago Graham School, Harris School of Public Policy, and Crown Family School of Social Work, Policy, and Practice for an online event exploring how the Graduate Student-at-Large (GSAL) program can serve as a pathway toward graduate education at UChicago.

Through GSAL, students can take for-credit graduate courses alongside UChicago students while receiving academic advising and support as they consider their longer-term goals. For prospective students interested in public policy, social work, social policy, or related fields, the program offers an opportunity to experience the rigor of UChicago graduate study, build an academic record, the potential for references from UChicago faculty, and gain a clearer understanding of what pursuing a graduate degree could look like.

During the event, you will hear from the GSAL, Harris, and Crown program teams about available academic pathways, the graduate student experience, and considerations for students thinking about applying to a degree program. Alumni from both Harris and Crown who began their UChicago journey through GSAL will also share how they used the program to explore graduate study and prepare for their next step.

Graduate pathways represented in the conversation will include:

  • Master of Social Work (Full-Time & Part-Time)
  • Master of Arts in Public Policy
  • Master of Arts in Public Policy with Certificate in Research Methods
  • Master of Public Policy
  • Master of Science in Climate and Energy Policy
  • Master of Science in Computational Analysis and Public Policy
  • Master of Science in Data Analytics and Policy

Whether you are already considering a specific degree or are still determining which direction is right for you, this event offers an opportunity to better understand your options and ask questions directly of the people who know these programs best.
