Biography
Britt Frenze is a life-long learner and passionate student of literature. She earned a doctorate in Medieval Studies (emphasis on literature) from the University of Notre Dame in 2020. She has taught both undergraduate and high school-level courses on the medieval world. Her multilingual, interdisciplinary research focuses on cultural exchange and textual transmission among England, France, and Scandinavia during the later medieval period, roughly 1100-1500. She has published peer-reviewed articles on medieval depictions of the environment in the Journal of English and Germanic Philology (2018), Early Middle English (2020), Arthuriana (2021), and Chaucer Review (2024), as well as on medieval conceptions of disease in Scandinavian Studies (2023). Her book project, Gendered Ecologies in Medieval Literature: Boundaries, Borderlands, and Bodies, considers how medieval authors of the North Atlantic cultural region depicted female characters in landscapes designed to reflect concerns about access to the female body.
