The press is the only industry singled out in the Constitution (in the First Amendment) for protection from government interference. The reason is simple: the framers understood the essential role that trustworthy, independent media play in a healthy democracy. Today that role is being challenged by hostile politicians, a mistrustful public and digital competition—and democracy itself is being impacted.

Watch our conversation with Eric Schurenberg, the founder of the Alliance for Trust in Media and the former CEO of Inc. and Fast Company. We cover how changes in technology and in media business models have transformed our news environment and what we can do to bring our political discourse–and our private conversations–back to a shared reality.

The event is part of a series that previews a forthcoming (Summer 2024) course by Schurenberg at the Graham School on Media, Trust, and the 2024 Elections.
